Expert systems are emerging as a powerful tool for decision making. Integrating expert systems with decision support systems may enhance the quality and efficiency of both computerized systems. This article examines possible connections between the two technologies and discusses some issues related to their integration. The objective of this article is to describe and discuss some issues of DSS/ES integration. Attaining this goal will be difficult for the following reasons. First, there is no consensus on what an ES is, and what constitutes a DSS [8]. Second, there are varying opinions regarding the potential for integration of these technologies. This paper will summarize the current state of DSS/ES integration, and present two frameworks for integration: ES integration into the conventional DSS components,.
